will the mirror
accept their apology?
actors often lie -
one way to convey to us
the characters they play

Hellebore flowers usually hang down. That means you have to crawl on hands and knees to see their faces. In early spring, I place some shards of old mirrors scattered around the garden so that I don't have to stoop in order to enjoy their flowers.

I can't help but wonder what there is to apologize for. After all, the world, as Shakespeare says, is a stage, and we are all performers.
In order to be able to act out another character, you have to hide your own, in which case you have to lie, or at least be economical with the truth.
That response was well put. That's where I was leaning with mine but couldn't quite get there.
Wonderfully played...it is hardest forgiving ourselves.
