The first hits quick and causes one to ponder - but the second creeps up slowly then pounces on the reader. At first thought first was best, but really, the second works wonderfully and is a very powerful haiku indeed.

I'd agree with Hamish ... the second haiku is the better it leaves one pondering. Both have their merits and beauty though. Bastet
